First Responders

Therapy for First Responders

When your job requires you to stay calm in the middle of chaos, it can be difficult to recognize when the weight of those experiences is affecting you. Therapy offers a space to step out of survival mode and begin addressing the impact of repeated exposure to trauma, stress, and critical incidents.

First responders experience events that most people never encounter in a lifetime. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, correctional officers, emergency medical professionals, and other frontline personnel are routinely exposed to trauma, critical incidents, loss, violence, medical emergencies, and the ongoing pressure of making high-stakes decisions under stress.

Trauma Treatment and Counseling recognizes the unique culture of service, resilience, responsibility, and the challenges that can come with asking for support. Treatment is designed to provide a confidential, respectful space that honors your experiences without judgment.

As an EMDR-trained trauma specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help first responders process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional intensity connected to traumatic memories. Many clients appreciate that EMDR helps the brain process experiences in a way that can decrease emotional distress while strengthening a sense of safety, control, and resilience.

Whether you have experienced a single critical incident or years of cumulative exposure to trauma, support is available and recovery is possible through compassionate, evidence-based first responder therapy.
